Reverend Amos Dickerson, Jr.

For nearly two decades, Pastor Amos Dickerson Jr. has devoted his life to winning souls for Christ and making a difference in the community through his ministry. He is currently the pastor at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church where he and the Saint James Family are determined to be a Lighthouse in the Community, Making Disciples through the Word of God and Christian love.

Pastor Dickerson Jr. has previously served congregations at First A.M.E. Zion Church in Orange N.J. and People’s A.M.E. Zion Church in Carteret, N.J.

Pastor Dickerson preached his trial sermon in June of 1988 while serving at New AME Zion Church of Paterson, N.J. He was admitted into the Camden District Conference in September of 1988. He received his Deaconate Ordination under the leadership of the late Bishop Alfred G. Dunston in 1991. Pastor Dickerson and family then moved on to Jersey City, NJ where he served for three years at Metropolitan AME Zion Church where Presiding Elder George W. Maize, III was Pastor. Pastor Dickerson became an Ordained Elder in 1991 while serving under Bishop Cecile Bishop.

Pastor Dickerson is involved in the community. In Orange, he was a member of the Community Advisory Board of Orange Memorial Hospital. In Carteret he founded the Carteret Community Action Council. He presently is the Chaplin for the Carteret Borough Fire Department and was an advisory member of the Urban Enterprise Zone Development Corporation, Carteret.

For the past 25 years, Pastor Dickerson Jr. has also been employed with New Jersey Transit serving as a Bus Operations Supervisor.

Pastor Dickerson Jr. attended William Paterson University, where he majored in Communications and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He furthered his education by attending the Radio Engineering Institute in Sarasota, Florida where he became a Licensed FCC Operator. He also attended Pratt Institute of Information Science in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attends New Brunswick Theological Seminary.

After college he met the love of his life, Kathy Jean Toler Dickerson. They were wed in 1983. From this union came two beautiful daughters, Armasian Genesis and Aja Christina. Pastor Dickerson Jr. also has two loving daughters in Shiqira Adesia and Nicole Hinson.

Pastor Dickerson was born in New York, NY. His Parents are Amos Sr. and the late Thelma Dickerson. He has two brothers Orrin James and Edward Adonis. He grew up in Paterson, NJ.

Pastor Dickerson is a Man of God with a passionate commitment for helping, serving and empowering people. He loves his family, his church family and his community. His hobbies are Reading, Barbequing, and Salt Water Fishing.
